NIGHT SKIES

At night, weather permitting, we have dark skies to the South, that make for outstanding sky watching.  Amazing views of the milky way can be seen and the Aurora Australis - the Southern Lights - may put in an appearance.

 

Shaun has been an active Aurora chaser for many years.  His  photographs  are published in books and have been used by mainstream media on many occasions.  Most recently he has had his aurora images used on a number of collectible coin sets issued by NZ Post,  see here https://collectables.nzpost.co.nz/2024-dark-sky-light-sky-silver-proof-coin-set/

 

To the naked eye the aurora is often seen as an eerie glow but with a correctly set camera, or high end cell phone, beautiful pictures can be taken - see some examples in our gallery or on our flickr page https://www.flickr.com/photos/possums-end/ or our Facebook and Instagram feeds. 

 

We have developed a dedicated aurora viewing spot for guests, as well as access to our private hilltop for night photography.  Shaun is always available to help and advise those attempting to photograph the night sky for the first time.
